Čiker MTB Marathon 2018

"Čiker MTB marathon 2018" will start on Sunday June 24, 2018. Marathon lasts for 10 days and it is not of competitive spirit. The marathon starts in Kraljevo, and finishes in Ulcinj, on Adriatic coast...

The marathon route will cover many mountains in Serbia and Montenegroout of which the most familiar are: Zlatibor, Zlatar, Jabuka, Durmitor and Rumija. It will also cover the following territories: Guča, Požega, Nova Varoš, Prijepolje, Žabljak, Šavnik, Nikšic, Podgorica and Ulcinj.

The marathon will go through many beautiful hills and mountains, using their macadam roads, as well as touristic centers of the two countries.

The marathon participant`s return to Kraljevo is organised for July 3, 2018.

The marathon organization plan per day includes:

1. The marathon starts from the center of Kraljevo, passes by the eight centuries old Žiča Monastery, from where the route continues through Mataruška Banja, and through the foot of Mountain Stolovi to the village Bogutovac, where the marathon participants cross the Ibar River over the hanging bridge.

From the village Bogutovac, the marathon route continues along the river Lopatnica, then the slopes of the mountains Jelica and Čemerno, after which it slowly descends to Guca, where the marathon participants can visit the famous "Trumpet Museum" and where the first lodging is planned.

2. From Guca, the marathon route passes through the town of Požega on the second day, then through the village of Zlakuša, famous for pottery production, next to Potpećka cave, through the village of Nikojevići and Rudine, coming to Zlatibor, where the marathon participants spend the night.

3. On the third day, participants of marathon start their ride from Zlatibor, through Gostilja, passing the famous waterfall and Stopić cave, then through Ljubiš, the birthplace of Ljubivoje Ršumović, next to Zlatarsko Lake, reaching Nova Varoš at the foot of Mount Zlatar, where the biker spend their third night.

4. From Nova Varoš, through Vodena Poljana, where the church of Kozme and Damjan is located, next to the top of Zlatar Mountain (Golo Brdo 1627masl), the marathon route, on the fourth day, descends to Prijepolje where the participants of marathon have the opportunity to visit the famous Mileševa Monastery.
From Prijepolje the route passes by the river Lim, villages of Župa and Hrta, to reach Kamena Gora Mountains at the height of about 1300masl, known for its village tourism and the famous "Holy Pine".

5. On the fifth day of the marathon, cyclists cross the border with Montenegro over Vukovo brdo, off the official border crossing, from where, through Mataruga and Kosanica, the route lowers to the famous bridge over Đurđević Tara.
From Đurđević Tara, the steep path of the marathon route leads to Žabljak, the city which has the highest altitude in the Balkans at 1465masl, surrounded by 23 mountain peaks of the Durmitor Mountain, over 2300masl above sea level. The fifth day of the marathon ends on Zabljak.

6. From Žabljak, Vražje Lake, and over Gornja Bukovica, the route comes to Šavnik where a longer break is planned for rest and snacks, as the most demanding section on the entire marathon lies ahead and that is the ascent to the town of Krnovo at 1490masl. From Krnovo,the route descends slightly to the Ski Center Vučje, where bikers spend their sixth night.

7. On the morning of the seventh day, bikers descend from Vučje to Nikšić, a town built next to the Roman military fortress Onogošt, built in the fourth century. After the break in Nikšić, bikers continue their path towards the famous Ostrog monastery from the 17th century.
From Ostrog Monastery, the marathon route runs through Danilovgrad, the town on the right bank of Zeta River, then down the Zeta valley to Podgorica, the capital of Montenegro and the final destination for the seventh day.

8. On the eighth, last day of pedaling, marathon runs from Podgorica, over Virpazar, and along the Skadar Lake. From there, bikers are lead to the border with the Republic of Albania, where they have magnificent view of Skadar Lake, part of town of Skadar in Albania, river Bojana and the Adriatic Sea. After the break on the viewpoint, bikers slightly descend to the route to Ulcinj, the southernmost point of the Montenegro coast, which is the final goal of the "Čiker mtb marathon 2018.
The total length of the marathon route will be about 600km.

9. The ninth day of the marathon is a "free day" when the marathon participants will have the opportunity to enjoy the beauties of Ulcinj beaches and Ada Bojana. In the evening of the ninth day, the traditional "Final Eve" will be organized for all participants, guests, as well as representatives of the tourist organizations of the cities through which the marathon has passed through.

10. On the tenth day, marathon participants return to Kraljevo by bus, while their bicycles are transported by freight vehicles. On July 3, 2018 in the evening hours, upon arrival to Kraljevo, "Čiker mtb marathon 2018" will be officially completed.
